Matthias’ Leadership Track Experience

• Can you briefly describe your current role and how it aligns with your goals within the Leadership Track program?

  As the Finance Manager at QbD Group, I lead a team of 12 people. My role involves supporting them in achieving our collective goals, while continuously developing my leadership skills. The Leadership Track program helps me focus on growing my ability to lead effectively and provide the necessary guidance to my team.

• Why did you choose to participate in the Leadership Track program? What do you hope to achieve, and what were your expectations beforehand?

  Being selected for the program was a huge honor, and I believe it will bring value to both my personal and professional growth. I’m hoping to improve my ability to engage with colleagues, make tough decisions, and approach challenges in a constructive way. Overall, I see it as a crucial next step in my professional career.

• How have you experienced the program so far? What were your first impressions after the kick-off and the initial training sessions?

  The program places a strong emphasis on strategic thinking, the bigger picture, networking, and visibility. For me, this has been a real eye-opener. It’s about not taking things for granted, stepping up as a leader, and, as I mentioned, being willing to take risks.

• Which specific topics or training sessions in the program are you most excited about, and why?

  I believe every session will offer valuable takeaways, but one I’m particularly looking forward to is managing difficult conversations. I know there is still a lot for me to learn in this area, and I’m eager to develop these skills further.

• How has the program contributed to your development as a leader, even if your role hasn’t changed? Can you give an example?

  While it’s still early in the process, working on my Personal Growth Plan (PGP) has already helped me reflect on how others perceive me in my role. It’s also made me more conscious of how I can build respect in my own way. The program has made me pause and think about my personal development, which is already helping me grow stronger as a leader.

• How do you think themes like ‘Grit’, ‘External Focus’, and ‘Thought Leadership’ have helped you become more effective in your role?

  The most important takeaway for me has been the importance of making decisions and not hesitating too long. It's about considering the impact and having the courage to make tough decisions when necessary. Effective leadership, for me, is about decisiveness, and this is an area where I still have room to grow.

• How do you see the program helping you become a better leader in the future?

  The program allows me to identify my strengths and weaknesses alongside my peers, which provides a unique opportunity for growth. By building on my strengths and addressing my weaknesses, I’ll be better equipped to handle challenges, escalate issues when needed, and manage various situations more effectively.

• What would you say to colleagues who are considering the Leadership Track program in the future?

  If you get the chance to be selected, take it without hesitation. You’ll definitely gain valuable insights that you can apply daily in both your professional and personal life. The key is to stay open to learning and embrace the experience.
